Even though Nev Schulman and Kamie Crawford host a show about the occasional deceitfulness of human beings, the Catfish collaborators say the internet has more positivity than negativity at the end of the day.
Page Six had a conversation with the 35-year-old Catfish host recently in which he claimed that “getting catfished” was one of the best things to ever happen in his life. Nev met the woman of his dreams on Facebook and documented it in his 2010 movie, Catfish.
Schulman went on to say there are a lot of people out there who haven’t even seen the movie. Moreover, they don’t realize it’s how he got to be where he is today. Nev said in many ways, the fact he was cat-fished led him to brighter days and better ways.
More importantly, Nev says he still thinks about it sometimes, and he’s shocked it even happened. These days, Schulman has two children with his wife, Laura Perlongo, Cleo, 3, and Beau, 1. Schulman is now concerned about what the future has in store for his kids.
Regarding how he’ll approach telling his kids about online dating, Schulman says he’s going to show them his movie. However, when push comes to shove, his children have to make their own decisions and learn from their mistakes.
The 27-year-old, Crawford, said there are many opportunities on the internet, but everyone has to be careful because there are some “scary people” out there. She said it’s especially important when trying to get a job, start a career, or start dating.
Crawford went on to joke that she actually thought she was going to get catfished when producers approached her about being on the show. Crawford says she’s “thrilled” that everything worked out the way it did in the end. “I definitely thought it was fake,” Crawford added.
Back in 2018, Schulman was one of the men accused of sexual misconduct amid the #MeToo movement. However, a third-party organization looked into the claims and found him not guilty.

A spokesperson for MTV said they never received an official complaint either.
