What is Elvis: That’s The Way It Is about?

The documentary is both a concert movie and documentary, as it follows Elvis Presley’s triumphant return to the stage.

Elvis Presley made his concert stage return after being absent for almost a decade on July 31, 1969, in Las Vegas.

The series of Las Vegas concerts broke all box office records and completely reenergised the career of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, which he felt until his death in 1977.

This feature-length documentary and concert film features performances including Love Me Tender, Blue Suede Shoes, Heartbreak Hotel and Suspicious Minds.

CEO of distributor Trafalgar Releasing, Marc Allenby, said: “It’s been 50 years since this career changing documentary about The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll was released, yet the lasting legacy of Elvis Presley and his music can be seen more clearly than ever in film, music and culture.”

Before this return to the stage, Elvis had spent a great deal of time making movies, such as Flaming Star, G.I. Blues and Pot Luck.

His film career was so busy, he had little time for performances and certainly put his music career on hold.

Elvis’ soundtrack albums became the only ones which were gracing the charts, though they were performing incredibly well and making sure he was still well-loved for his music.

During this time Elvis had become unhappy with his career, as his soundtracks and singles were performing less well in the charts as the 1960s went on.

He returned to perform in a televised special, simply called Elvis, though is now known as the ’68 Comeback Special, which was a rip-roaring success.

Elvis then released From Elvis in Memphis in June 1969, which was his first secular, non-soundtrack album from a dedicates studio session in eight years, and was he needed to galvanise him to head to the stage for a huge 57-show residency at the International Hotel in Las Vegas.

Elvis: That’s The Way It Is is the beginning of that residency, which truly put The King back on the throne.
