Ellen DeGeneres was reported to have felt “betrayed” by the claims of bullying on her eponymous US show. Sources close to the TV star, 62, claimed she felt her international success – through the hit Disney film ‘Finding Dory’ – made her a “target” and has considered leaving the show, Us Weekly reported. BBC star James Corden has been tipped as a possible replacement if she departed and was claimed to have been on the hit list of NBC, who saw him as her “long-term successor”. While many may like to see the ‘Gavin and Stacey’ actor, 41, star take over, unearthed accounts reveal his crippling doubts about being a success in the US.
James made heartbreaking confessions about his fear of failure after his family moved to the US and how his doubts meant he didn’t buy furniture for years.
The ‘Late Late Show’ host admitted that when his wife, three-year-old son and daughter, then three months, moved across the pond in 2015 he bluntly stated: “We’re not buying anything!”
He admitted that they “rented a couch and everything” for three years over fears he could get sacked at any moment, during a chat last year on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’.
James said: “I thought the only thing worse than getting fired will be getting fired and then being left with a couch that we’ve got to get rid of somehow.
“We will be on the first flight back to London just going ‘Well, that was a disaster!’ – I genuinely meant that, my life was completely fraught.”
“So if I [raced] to the seat I’ll be sat down and then it will be too awkward [for them to fire me], so I don’t know, I’m not sure. I’ve no idea how long we’ll do it for… we’ll see how it goes.”
In a cheeky sleight about James’ fame, Ellen told him that he “may be fired” due to his lack of celebrity while he appeared alongside big-names in the movie ‘Cats’.
The actor quipped: “I mean I go tomorrow, I might be back here by Saturday. I fly tomorrow night to start filming it.”
When asked how he prepared for the role, James joked that he was “like Daniel Day-Lewis – I immerse myself into the character”.
He continued: “So I’ve been living like a cat. I don’t use the bathroom, I have a litter tray and then I just (acts a paw swipe) the whole time that’s it, that’s been me the whole time.”
