Captain America: The First Avenger ended with Steve Rogers waking up in a 1940s hospital with the radio playing. But he quickly realised that something was up as the broadcast turned out to be of a baseball game he attended in 1941. Cap rushes out into New York City’s Times Square, where Nick Fury reveals he’s been frozen since World War II.
But what if Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. made the radio broadcast mistake on purpose?
That’s what a new fan theory argues, which reckons that Samuel L Jackson’s character was testing Captain America.
One Reddit user wrote: “At the end of Captain America, they intentionally made the mistake of having dates that already passed.
“Steve Rogers was selected not just for bravery, but for displaying intelligence and for being clever.”

The theorist continued: “They wanted to make sure the original super soldier was still entirely with it.
“If he hadn’t noticed that the dates had already passed, it would have been [a] cause for concern.
“It was likely the first of a few subtle tests to make sure he wasn’t too damaged from being frozen in ice for 70+ years.”
Another fan commented: “Some more evidence I’ve seen is the woman who greeted him also had a modern hairstyle and a bra with round cups.”
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show a couple of months ago, the 39-year-old said: “It’s not a hard no, but it’s not an eager yes either.
“I think Cap had such a tricky act to stick the landing, and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey.
“If you’re going to revisit it, it can’t be a cash grab.
“It can’t be just because the audience wants to be excited.”
Evans continued: “What are we revealing?
“What are we adding to the story?
“A lot of things would have to come together.”
