Call of Duty Modern Warfare update: COD Warzone Season 5 patch news on PS4 and Xbox

Call of Duty Warzone and Modern Warfare updates are launching this week, bringing big changes across all platforms. A big part will be the release of COD Season 5, and there have been plenty of reports teasing what map changes and new content are being worked on. From what has been teased so far, developers Infinity Ward have been saving some of the biggest stuff for this season, which could be one of the last before the next Call of Duty game is launched. Fans have been given plenty to suggest that Call of Duty Warzone will see the opening of the Stadium, creating a whole new drop zone.

How this will happen has not been revealed but there’s a good chance the top of the stadium could be blown open by an explosion.

This will change the current dynamics of the Verdansk map, with Downtown becoming even more wide-open than it was before.

Some of these hints have been shared indirectly through streamers, while Activision has also been providing a few teases.

The official Call of Duty Twitter account recently posted a picture of the stadium entrance with the caption:

“If the Stadium had a name, what would it be? Our doors are open to ideas. Drop ’em below.”

A new train is expected to appear on the map, offering a mobile loot drop for those who can secure it.

A range of new weapons, skins and maps are also expected to arrive as part of the Modern Warfare bundle.

This will reportedly include new AN-94 and APC9 weapons, although it’s unclear if these will come to both Modern Warfare and Warzone.

Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty Modern Warfare Season 5 will start on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

It’s likely that this big update will go live in the evening in the United States, perhaps on August 4, and early morning in the UK, on August 5.

Developers Infinity Ward has yet to confirm its full plans for Season 5 but the good news is that this information should be arriving very soon.

And while it might not give everything away, it could provide some much-needed clarity on what to expect later this week.

CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE SEASON 5 PATCH NEWS

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Season 5 is kicking off on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 on PS4, Xbox and PC. Patch notes are expected to be shared before everything goes live, which means news should be coming soon from Activision.

Blog posts have already confirmed that a new faction is coming to the game on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The Shadow Company will come with its own cosmetics and colourful backstory, with the official description revealing:

“Initially formed to fight back against a new AQ and their benefactor Mr. Z, the Armistice was a temporary alliance that has crumbled. New Operators dropping into Verdansk have joined the fray to protect their own, as the request has been made to only “send Operators one can trust”.

And for good reason, the distrust has led to infighting, and hostile forces run unchecked in Verdansk. As the rules of the original Armistice agreement have utterly failed, Shadow Company arrives without pretense – they operate on their own terms.

“An elite PMC, Shadow Company operates outside the boundaries of the original Armistice. Forged from the fires of in-fighting between the Coalition and the Allegiance, Shadow Company has a framework and agenda all of their own.

“Ostensibly Allegiance Operators who have grown impatient with Coalition progress under the command of Captain Price, Shadow Company is a splinter group formed without compromise, ready to take the war directly to Mr. Z and into Verdansk and deal with terrorist threats directly.”
