China war threat: Wave of nationalism sparks call for 'unrestricted warfare' on any nation

The nationalism centres upon almost idol worship of President Xi Jinping. Communist party officials have even called for the mandatory study of Xi Jinping’s thoughts. China has used the country’s success in quelling the spread of coronavirus within its borders as an example of the righteousness of the Communist Party under the supreme leadership of president Xi Jinping.

The world’s most populated country has seen an explosion of xenophobia since the outbreak of coronavirus, with some restaurants displaying banners celebrating the virus’s spread in the United States.

There has also been a widely circulated cartoon showing foreigners being sorted into trash bins.

In the city of Chengdu the US consulate was officially closed by the Chinese regime of Monday.

As the US flag was being lowered a crowd of onlookers celebrated and sang the words, “praising our beloved motherland as it goes towards prosperity and power”.

One woman who was celebrating outside the embassy said: “We are very happy, another spy centre was kicked off by us, and we are rejoicing.”

The patriotic fervour in China has manifested as heightened defensiveness, especially the suspiciousness of foreigners in the country.

This nationalism is reflected in the militaristic apparatus of the Chinese state.

Much has been made of a Chinese military strategy designed by two top tier generals that espouse, “unrestricted warfare” against states that are in opposition to Beijing.

“This may mean the government policies will become more antagonist towards each other.”

Unfortunately, this nationalism that is being encouraged by the ruling party has had a negative effect on the ordinary Chinese citizen.

Due to the China-India conflict in the Himalayas, fifty-nine Chinese companies have now been banned in India.

There is a high probability that Huawei will be excluded from the UK’s 5G network.

Now US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will ban Chinese social media TikTok.

Just as the West has warned of the rise of Chinese nationalism, Beijing has countered with the rise of populism in the US under President Trump.

A new cold war seems to be dawning and both China and the west are digging in for a long battle of attrition.
