Analogue Pocket pre-orders opening soon ahead of handheld's 2020 release date

ANALOGUE POCKET – UPDATE ONE: Analogue has revealed that pre-orders for the Analogue Pocket will launch next week.

On Twitter the retro gaming specialists confirmed that the Analogue Pocket pre-orders will open on Monday August 3 at 8am pacific time.

For those in other regions that’s 11am eastern and 4pm BST.

ORIGINAL: The Analogue Pocket release date could be revealed today, with Analogue about to make an announcement.

At 8am pacific time, which is 11am eastern and 4pm BST, Analogue will share some news via their official Twitter account.

So far all we know is the timings for the announcement, but an update on the Analogue Pocket seems the most likely reveal.

The Analogue Pocket is the Seattle-based firm’s first ever portable console after doing a series of standout home console revivals.

From the Analogue Nt, to the Analogue Super Nt, to the Analogue Mega Sg – the US firm has forged a reputation for producing premium retro gaming devices.

And while 2014’s Analogue Nt had a premium price tag, their subsequent devices have been far easier on the wallet without compromising on quality.

The Analogue Pocket, which was announced last October, boasts a $199.99 price tag – which for an FPGA device is pretty incredible.

And it will support a tonne of retro handhelds, with it looking like the ultimate system for gamers who miss the days when the Game Boy ruled supreme.

Out of the box the Analogue Pocket will be compatible with thousands of Game Boy, Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Color games.

But cartridge adapters will also be released for plenty of other systems which makes the Analogue Pocket seem like a no brainer.

Thanks to these extra accessories the Analogue Pocket will also support the Sega Game Gear, the Neo Geo Pocket Color, the Atari Lynx and more.

The Analogue Pocket has been described as a “tribute to portable gaming”.

When Analogue announced the Analogue Pocket last year their official Twitter account posted: “Introducing Analogue Pocket.

“A multi-video-game-system portable handheld. A digital audio workstation with a built-in synthesizer and sequencer. A tribute to portable gaming.”

At the time the Analogue Pocket had a “coming 2020” release window, with no exact month or quarter mentioned.

But it looks like we could finally get an update on the Analogue Pocket today. The firm last week simply posted a picture with the message: “Jul. 27, 2020 8am PST”.

The picture also had a greenish background colour similar to one used in Analogue Pocket marketing, further hinting that it what the announcement is about.

The Analogue Pocket will boast a 3.5inch 615 ppi LCD screen with a 1600×1440 resolution. This is 10 times the resolution of the original Game Boy.

On the handheld’s official website, Analogue said: “Your Pocket just got bigger.

Pocket is designed around a first-in-class 3.5”, 615 ppi, LCD. With a 1600×1440 resolution, Pocket has 10x the resolution of an original Game Boy. Yeah. We can hardly believe it, either. Pro level color accuracy, dynamic range, and brightness. There has never been a display this advanced in a video game system.”

The Analogue Pocket will also be getting a dock that lets you play portable games on the big screen in HD.

Wireless 8BitDo Bluetooth controllers can be used so you can sit back, relax and play some handheld games on your telly in glorious high-definition.

At the time of writing the Analogue Dock has a TBA release date.
