Man Utd battling with four big problems ahead of Leicester Premier League clash

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows a win or draw against Leicester will see the Red Devils back in the Champions League for next season. But, while the club haven’t lost in the Premier League since January, things aren’t all rosy for the club. Express Sport will now take a look at four problems United are having to contend with ahead of the match against the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.

Dodgy defence

For the most part this season United’s defence has excelled, helping the club push for a spot in the Premier League top four.

But, in recent weeks, standards have dropped.

David De Gea has made a series of errors throughout the course of the campaign and, in particular, in matches against Tottenham and Chelsea since the restart.

Harry Maguire has also looked a shadow of his old self, enduring horror shows against Spurs, Chelsea and Southampton.

And Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof have both looked fatigue. Both De Gea and the club’s defenders will have to be at their best to stop Leicester from running riot.

Struggling fringe players

Part of the reason why Solskjaer has refused to heavily rotate his side is because he knows many fringe players aren’t good enough.

Daniel James has looked flat in the two matches he’s started since the restart, while Diogo Dalot looks destined for the exit door.

Jesse Lingard barely gets a look-in these days and Fred, in the defeat to Chelsea, looked back to the lacklustre player he was last season.

It’s a team effort and United will need those who either start or come off the bench to be operating at 100 per cent.

Reliance on Bruno Fernandes

Since the Villa game, Fernandes has looked jaded.

And it’s hammered home just how reliant United are on the 25-year-old, who has been in electric form since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon.

When Fernandes has an off-day, the whole team struggles.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are superb players but both rely on service from the midfield to fully make an impact.

And that’s another problem Solskjaer is having to contend with ahead of the Leicester clash.
