Holidays: These destinations could be at risk of being slashed from 'air bridge' list

Yesterday, Spain was removed from the Government’s list of “air bridge” countries after some regions of the country experienced a surge in coronavirus cases. Anyone returning from anywhere in Spain must now quarantine for two weeks. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is also advising against all non-essential travel to mainland Spain.

France

France has witnessed a sudden spike in coronavirus cases after it reported 1,130 new cases on Saturday.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex warned of the possibility of France shutting down for a second time to fight the invisible disease.

He said a lockdown could not be ruled out as a “prevention”.

Mr Castex said: “What we must avoid above all is a general lockdown.

“Such a measure breaks the spread of the epidemic, certainly, but it is catastrophic on an economic and social level, including for the psychological health of some of our fellow citizens.”

At the time of writing, France has had 180,528 cases of coronavirus and over 30,000 deaths.

Germany

Germany reported 815 new cases on Friday, compared to 583 the week before.

The country is experiencing new localised infections, according to German politician Michael Kretschmer.

He told the Rheinische Post newspaper: “The second wave of coronavirus is already here.”

Around 500 people were quarantined in Bavaria after 174 workers tested positive for the virus.

Germany has had over 206,000 cases of coronavirus, at the time of writing.

Belgium

On Monday (July 20), there were 416 new cases of coronavirus cases were recorded in Belgium.

Infections rose by 89 percent, according got the EU Observer.

The country has announced that it will not be continuing into phase five of its easing of lockdown measures.

Italy

Italy has also seen a sudden spike in cases which could see lockdown measures reintroduced.

Rome and the region of Lazio have seen the biggest increase in cases.

Some regions have temporarily closed squares and other public areas.
