Alexis Sanchez will need to lower his current wages if he wants to complete a permanent move to Inter Milan this summer, according to reports in Italy.

The Chilean forward, who is on loan from Manchester United, is on a £500,000-a-week contract with the Premier League club but has spent this season in Serie A.

As part of the temporary deal, Inter Milan pay £4.5million of his annual salary at Old Trafford and the club are keen to make the move permanent.

But Sky Sports in Italy say that a permanent deal for Sanchez will only be possible if the 31-year-old agrees to a hefty wage cut from his Manchester United deal.

Sanchez has two years left on his United contract and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side are desperate to get the Chilean off the wage bill ahead of an important transfer window for the Red Devils.

Sky Sports Italia also claim that the Premier League club will not sanction a loan extension for Sanchez into next season.

Sanchez’s time in Italy got off to a slow start due to a combination of injuries and the excellent form of fellow forwards Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez at the start of the season.

But the striker has fared well since Serie A restarted after lockdown with six assists in his last seven games.

He has helped Inter Milan achieve a top-four finish but Antonio Conte’s side have likely to fail in toppling Juventus at the top of the table.

Conte’s Inter visit Genoa on Saturday night looking to close the gap at the top to four points with two games remaining.
