Pirates of the Caribbean 6: Will there be a new Pirates film? Will Johnny Depp be in it?

Pirates of the Caribbean was a film franchise which surprised many by its incredible viewership. Starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, the film saw many famous actors cut their teeth in the big film world. However, it has been wracked with bad reviews and difficult outings in its four sequels – but will there be another movie?

In 2018 in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Disney film production chief Sean Bailey said: “We want to bring in a new energy and vitality.

“I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason Paul [Wernick] and Rhett [Reese] are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that’s what I’ve tasked them with.”

At the time, Deadpool writers Reese and Wernick were working on the film, however, at the moment, Chernobyl co-creator Craig Mazin is writing the script for the movie alongside Ted Elliott, who has worked in the franchise for a while.

Despite this, it has since been reported a second film is also in the works simultaneously, which is a separate reboot, potentially star Margot Robbie and the script would be written by Christina Hodson.

According to Screen Rant, neither of these films are a continuation of the story, so it is unknown whether any of the previous Pirates cast would return.

Their report also suggested some other major stars have been lined up as potentials in the leading role, including Daisy Ridley, Karen Gillan and Emma Watson.

While little is known about either of these movies, We Got This Covered reported Disney bosses are hoping to bring back Johnny Depp, despite 2018 reports suggesting the actor had been dropped from the franchise by Disney.

When this was announced, fans were not happy and some even started a campaign to bring him back.

According to We Got This Covered, sources suggest overwhelming support from the public for Depp made some of the Disney executives change their minds, and they are now reportedly “lobbying” for his return.

However, it is believed his return would only be in a supporting role rather than a leading role, as the aim of the studio is reportedly to feature a female lead.

HN Entertainment reported Captain Jack was to be replaced by a “revamped character in the popular Disneyland attraction who’s also a meet-in-greet park character”.

There have been suggestions Kaya Scodelario’s character, Carina, could become the female lead everyone is expecting in the new movie, however, if there’s no continuation at all, it seems more likely fresh blood will be brought in.

Of course, if Depp isn’t involved, this could put off many fans of the star and the franchise.
