Phillip Schofield talks 'vicious circle' after shed discovery during This Morning break

Phillip Schofield, 58, and his co-star Holly Willoughby, 39, recently stepped down from their hosting duties on This Morning for their summer break. But it seemingly appeared the ITV favourite has not been putting his feet up as he gave fans a rare insight into the unusual way he is spending his time off work.

The small-screen took to Instagram and revealed he had discovered hydrochloric acid in his dad’s garage.

Phillip found the corrosive substance and said “nobody will take it away”, so was using bicarbonate of soda in an attempt to neutralise it.

In the short video uploaded to his stories, he could be seen sporting protective clothing including headgear.

The ITV presenter filmed his efforts and joked his outfit made him look like Walter White from hit show Breaking Bad.

In view of his 3.2 million followers, the dad-of-two could be seen placing the barrel on the ground.

He wore a brown coat teamed with a pair of heavy duty boots and completed his attire with a pair of gloves.

Phillip captioned the clip: “When you find hydrochloric acid in your dad’s garage and nobody will take it away…”

He then filmed himself cutting open a bag of Bicarbonate Soda which he claimed would “neutralise” the corrosive acid as he attempted to get rid of it.

With several bags of the product displayed on a countertop, he wrote: “Bought too much bicarb…better buy some hydrochloric acid! This is a vicious circle!”(sic)

Phillip lives in Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire with his wife, Stephanie Lowe, who he married in 1993 and the couple share two daughters, Molly, 27, and Ruby, 24.

Earlier this year, Phillip came out as gay on Instagram in a heartfelt post.

During lockdown, the This Morning presenter has written a tell-all autobiography titled Life’s What You Make It.
