Graeme Souness feels sorry for Liverpool as they lift the Premier League trophy in front of an empty Anfield stadium.

Jurgen Klopp’s men lifted the trophy for the first time in 30 years after defeating Chelsea 5-3 at their home ground.

Souness sympathises with the players as their presentation lacked ‘love and passion’ without their supporters.

With the Liverpool players surrounded by fireworks and covered in confetti, the Sky Sports pundit does, however, feel the presentation was as successful as it could have been given the circumstances.

‘I think they’ve done very well, it was always going be difficult but that’s as good as you can hope for,’ said Souness.

‘You get the trophy, you go to the supporters, you get the love and passion from them so I feel for them. They’ll still have a great night but I feel for them.’

Fellow pundit and former Liverpool player John Barnes added that Klopp’s men deserve to enjoy this moment, regardless of the lack of fans.

Reflecting on the ceremony, he said: ‘It will be huge, because they’ve never experienced winning it in for of 60,000 anyway.

‘They deserve this moment, regardless whether there’s no-one here. They have to go through this, they have to celebrate this, they have to have that experience of celebrating a trophy and the whole euphoria around it.’

‘This is a new experience for all the players, they really have to savour the moment.’

Having lifted the trophy for the first time since 1990, after finishing second four times in the intervening years, Souness believes this Liverpool side will be the team to beat.

‘They have the spark. If you’re a player you want to be playing every week. You look around the dressing room and there are so many top players and that should motivate you.

‘There’s a good mix of experience and quality. They’re going to be the team to beat now.’
