Emma Willis admits family fears due to husband Matt Willis’ absence: ‘Immensely paranoid'

The Voice host Emma Willis, 44, has admitted she gets “paranoid” about security measures when her husband Matt Willis, 37, is away from home while on tour with his band Busted. The mum-of-three revealed she wants a “panic room” in the house, as she tends to become very concerned over their young family’s “safety” when the musician isn’t with her.

Emma said that she and her kids all sleep in the same room when the Busted bassist isn’t there.

She also relies on friends to stay and gets up five times a night to double check that their burglar alarm is on in her other half’s absence.

Speaking on the When No One’s Watching podcast, Emma candidly explained: “I am Mrs Health and Safety – I would rather be safe than sorry.

“I think I have become immensely paranoid about safety as I’ve got older and had kids.

“And if I’m away all the kids go and sleep in her bed.”

On why she invites friends to stay in Matt’s absence, Emma explained: “I was too scared to be here on my own, the unknown, what might happen, your head goes through a million different places.”

Emma’s revelation about wanting a “panic room” installed at home comes after she felt “panicked” by tuning into the news during the coronavirus lockdown.

The star shared her realisation while insisting that Matt Willis has coped with the pandemic “so much better” than she has.

Opening up about their experience in lockdown as a couple, Emma told The Sun’s Fabulous Magazine: “We had a point where I don’t think I watched the news for about three days and my focus adjusted.

“I realised I’d been all-consumed by it and it was nice to live in my bubble for a week and not feel panicked.

“We have a good balance now, news in the morning and evening and that’s better than having a constant stream of it.”

She added: “One thing it’s made me realise – and I’m going to say it out loud – is that I’m a bit of a control freak.

“And I think Matt is quite happy that I’ve realised that about myself, because he’s clearly known it for a long time!

“I suppose because I’m a little bit that way inclined and this is something you can’t control, he has handled it so much better than me.”
