Coronation Street: How many times has Gail Platt been married?

ITV has been showing Coronation Street Memorable Moments, episodes highlighting some of the best moments from the soap’s 60-year history. From stories which gripped the nation to the biggest baddies on the cobbles, the show, voiced by comedian Jason Manford, has given viewers a chance to remember some of their favourite storylines. Another episode in the series also focused on marriages, with an entire segment on all of Gail Platt’s (played by Helen Worth) husbands.

How many times has Gail Platt been married?

Gail has been married a total of six times to five husbands during the course of Coronation Street.

The only other character who has had more marriages is Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) who has been married seven times to five women.

Her first husband was Brian Tilsley (Christopher Quinten), who was both Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Sarah Platt’s (Tina O’Brien) dad.

They were married from 1979 but after years of bickering over money, Brian and Gail started to grow apart.

Gail married financial adviser Richard Hillman (Brian Capron) in 2002 but little did she know that he had murdered his ex-wife as well as Maxine Peacock (Tracy Shaw) with a crowbar.

In 2003, he confessed to his crimes and went on the run but soon returned, attempting to drown Gail, Sarah, David and himself by driving a car into a canal.

Thankfully, they all survived apart from Richard himself who drowned.

The hopeless romantic didn’t remarry until 2010 when she tied the knot with Joe McIntyre (Reece Dinsdale).

This was her shortest marriage however as just one month after the wedding, Joe was riddled with debts and tried to fake his own death to get more money.

But his plan went wrong and ended up drowning for real as he was unable to get back on the boat.

Gail was arrested for his murder but a few months later was found not guilty.
