Christopher Nolan fans were a little taken aback earlier this year when Anne Hathaway appeared on an Actors On Actors video with Hugh Jackman. During this chat she spoke about the director of DC Comics’ The Dark Knight Trilogy, and commented that he “didn’t allow chairs”.
She said during the video: “[Nolan] doesn’t allow chairs. And his reasoning is, if you have chairs, people will sit, and if they’re sitting, they’re not working.
“I mean, he has these incredible movies in terms of scope and ambition and technical prowess and emotion.
“It always arrives at the end under schedule and under budget. I think he’s onto something with the chair thing.”
Since these claims arrived, Nolan’s people commented on the story via Indiewire, in which Nolan’s spokesperson explained: “For the record, the only things banned from [Christopher Nolan’s] sets are cell phones (not always successfully) and smoking (very successfully).

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk about his brand new film Arthur & Merlin: Knights of Camelot, Brake explained he “didn’t remember” whether chairs were banned.
He went on: “I don’t remember if we did have chairs or didn’t have chairs.
“Yet in the courtroom scene I definitely sat down.
“I was sitting in the pews at the courtroom chatting… and I’m pretty sure we were sitting down.”
While this certainly doesn’t confirm either Hathaway or Nolan’s comments, it does make the matter a bit more confusing.
Thankfully, Brake had a huge amount of praise for Nolan coming off the back of Batman Begins.
He explained: “I remember walking around the set of Gotham – it was all inside a huge hangar.
“They had built this entire city, really, and it was like walking around a decrepit New York City. It was incredible, the detail.
