Kate Garraway: GMB host's husband leaves doctors ‘concerned’ after clots found in lungs

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway, 53, discussed her husband Derek Draper’s progress with her co-star Ben Shephard on the show this morning. She told viewers husband is “stable” but left nurses concerned after his blood pressure dropped and clots were discovered in his lungs.

Detailing his progress, the mother-of-two said: “He had a tough week last week.

“He had two big falls in blood pressure, which were worrying staff and swelling in his legs, which was concerning in case it might be clots… we know that COVID can cause clotting.

“He has had clots in his lungs. I suppose the concern might be if there are any new clots forming now and he hasn’t got an active COVID virus.”

But despite the concerning change, Kate said her long-term spouse is “stable” and opened his eyes when Good Morning Britain was on yesterday.

She added: “He is stable and yesterday I spoke to the nurses and they had put Good Morning Britain on and they felt, because his eyes were open, that he looked focused and engaged.

“I found it very emotional. We don’t know if it was the moving of the light or the familiar voices.”

She then turned to Ben and joked: “They didn’t say whether it was me or you.”

Kate added: “We don’t know whether it’s the movement of the light, or whether it’s the familiar voice. So, good morning, Derek, if you are watching.

“We’re all sending you lots of love, everyone here is sending you lots of love.”

She added: “So there you go, your own personal Good Morning Britain.”

Derek was admitted to hospital in March after being diagnosed with coronavirus and remains seriously ill.

He was put into an induced coma after coronavirus led to further health complications.

Earlier this month, Kate said he remains in a coma, but had opened his eyes in recent weeks.

Kate returned to Good Morning Britain last week after taking time off from her work commitments.

The presenter had been giving fans weekly updates about her spouse’s progress on Instagram when she and their children clapped for the NHS.

The pair share two children together; Darcey, 14 and Billy, 11.

Last weekend, Kate gave fans an insight into her son Derek’s fun-filled birthday party.

The Smooth radio host was joined by her colleague Myleene Klass, Martin Kemp and her former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! co-star Roman Kemp.

As part of her many posts, she went on to tell fans Derek would be “proud” of their celebrations.

Good Morning Britain continues tomorrow at 6am on ITV,
