Phaedra Parks Honors Civil Rights Legend Rep. John Lewis

The bad news continues to flood social media in this terrible year. It’s been revealed that John Robert Lewis who managed to become a towering figure of the civil rights movement and a longtime US congressman, has died after a six-month battle with cancer. He was 80 years old.

‘It is with inconsolable grief and enduring sadness that we announce the passing of U.S. Rep. John Lewis,’ according to an official family statement.

Phaedra honored his memory and posted the following message on her social media account.

‘When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something, to do something. Our children and their children will ask us, ‘What did you do? What did you say?” -John Lewis The first time I received an invitation to your home I was honored and overwhelmed at the same time. To have the privilege of being in your presence and at your home was inspiring and empowering. It gave me confidence and made me want to be a part of the #civilrights #movement. Every time I called your office you answered,’ Phaedra began her post.

She continued and said: ‘Your staff is incredible. You were a towering figure in the civil rights era and never ceased to pursue justice for everyone. Thank you for allowing a small town girl with super-sized dreams the honor of having a seat at your table. Because of your #legacy- “there will be no turning back!” 👑 🙏🏾❣️#RIP @repjohnlewis #welldone #leader #icon #American #history #hero #JohnLewis ✊🏾’

A commenter wrote: ‘MS.PARKS:…..They’re leaving us tears noooo!! young people have no idea, l think we failed on we didn’t train them for this day to carry on the way they did when he and MLK protest they were the best!! They trained prepared fiercely they expected to be spit on arrested, hassled, etc they paid the price for Black lives matter too matter as a statement and organization. They were not disrespectful to officers of authorities representing the law, even if they were mean they still had dignity and respect for others no matter when he and MLK marched, keeping it moving til they got the goal. #jobwelldone👏👊sir😘.’

Someone else posted this: ‘Such a pain when we lose someone who meant so much to our community… Rip John Lewis and thank you so much for giving my ‘southern belle’ her rightful and deserved spot at the table.’
