Phillip Schofield speaks out on 'very sad' time after taking on late dad's job

This Morning host Phillip Schofield took to Instagram yesterday after clearing out his late father’s garage. The 58-year-old presenter discovered something left behind by his dad that made him “very sad” during the process.

Phillip’s dad Brian died in 2008, after a battle with heart problems at the age of 72.

The television star previously described him as the “most calmest and most gorgeous man in the history of the world” and also the “joker of the family”.

The father-of-two was clearing out the garage when he moved a circular saw that his dad regularly used to do jobs around the house.

What he found made him quite emotional and he took to social media to share the details with his 3.2 million followers.

Back in 2014, Phill spoke about his father’s death during a segment on This Morning about grief.

The TV host was speaking to a viewer who called into the programme who had lost a loved one, when he shared his own personal story.

“My dad died in 2008, he’d been poorly for a long time,” he began.

“We knew it was going to happen, but when it finally did happen we heard from the hospital, who said it’s incredible how many people, and it is this extraordinary physical thing that a person who is near the end of their life, who without even knowing it maybe, waits until family have left the room and then they go quietly on their own.

“And that’s tough you know, that’s tough, he tried to sneak away, but we caught him.”
