PES 2021 update: Konami reveal eFootball Season PS4 and Xbox One release date

The PES 2021 Season update has a release date set for September and will cost less than the usual annual launch title. Konami announced earlier this week that they had scrapped plans to release a full PES 2021 game and were instead focusing on next-gen plans. This would include a big upgrade for the PS5 and Xbox Series X version of the game, which will be arriving next year.

Instead of the normal annual release, a PES 2021 Season Update is launching Summer 2020, and will include the latest player and club data for the next season.

Konami have revealed plans to move the game’s engine over to Unreal for next year, which has already showcased a pretty nifty demo of what that will be able to do.

In a recent announcement, Epic Games confirmed that they wanted to push for photorealism in Unreal Engine 5, which could prove huge in a game like PES.

“We’ve just released a first look at Unreal Engine 5. One of our goals in this next generation is to achieve photorealism on par with movie CG and real life, and put it within practical reach of development teams of all sizes through highly productive tools and content libraries,” the announcement from Epic Games explains.

“Nanite virtualized micropolygon geometry frees artists to create as much geometric detail as the eye can see. Nanite virtualized geometry means that film-quality source art comprising hundreds of millions or billions of polygons can be imported directly into Unreal Engine—anything from ZBrush sculpts to photogrammetry scans to CAD data—and it just works.

“Nanite geometry is streamed and scaled in real time so there are no more polygon count budgets, polygon memory budgets, or draw count budgets; there is no need to bake details to normal maps or manually author LODs; and there is no loss in quality.”

WHEN IS THE PES 2021 SEASON UPDATE RELEASING ON PS4 AND XBOX ONE?

Konami has confirmed that the PES 2021 Season Update has a release date set for September 15, 2020, on PS4, Steam, and Xbox One.

It will cost around 25.00 to purchase and it appears fans may have to wait a little longer before they can start pre-ordering the game.

Konami has also warned that the latest data for certain licensed leagues and teams will only be available via an update post-release.

This means you will need an internet connection in order to download this update and have everything that has been confirmed by the development team.

A message from Konami adds: “We recognize that many of you are enthusiastic for new myClub and Master League content, and we are also excited to share that large updates are in the works for both of these modes.

“However, the sheer scale of everything we are aiming to achieve for our next-gen debut has made it necessary to pare back our efforts in other areas of development. As a result, we have made the decision to launch this year’s PES as a streamlined offering in the form of a “season update”.

“That being said, we are still extremely confident that this year’s game offers fans more than enough thrills to tide them over until our next-gen title is ready for launch.

“This year also marks a quarter of a century since the very first PES title was released. To commemorate this important milestone, and more importantly, to show our gratitude to you, our loyal fans, we are pleased to announce that this year’s PES will launch at an affordable anniversary price and will also come with several bonuses.

“Currently, we aim to begin testing of our next-gen title sometime in mid-2021, with an estimated release date later in the same year.”
