Space mystery: What is this object stretching 1.4 billion light-years across space?

Due to its sheer size, the South Pole Wall rivals the Sloan Great Wall filament, which measures 1.38 billion light-years across.

But there are even bigger filaments found across the Universe, forming together the so-called cosmic web.

The biggest known structure is the Hercules-Corona Borealis Great Wall, which is estimated to measure 9.7 billion light-years from end to end.

However, the astronomers have noted in their study they may have not charted the full extent of the South Pole Wall just yet.

They wrote: “We will not be certain of its full extent, nor whether it is unusual until we map the Universe on a significantly grander scale.”
