CANNESERIES announces official selection with breakout “ATROPA”

The CANNESERIES Official Competition has unveiled its first 2018 TV fest competition lineup, showcasing a wide range of 10 ambitious and anticipated new series, including Sandra Oh’s “Killing Eve,” Omri Givon’s “When Heroes Fly,” and “Here on Earth,” co-created by Gael García Bernal with Michael C.Hall

Most notably is the CANNESERIES digital competition nominee, the viral sensation sci-fi thriller “ATROPA,” directed by Eli Sasich.

 “ATROPA” centres around a troubled Off-World Officer, portrayed by actor Anthony Bonaventura, running from his past, finds himself slammed directly into it when he boards the mysterious spaceship ATROPA. 

A love-letter to the grungy science fiction movies of the 70s and 80s, the seven-episode digital series ATROPA features a twisting sci-fi plot, dazzling visual effects, and legendary genre actor Michael Ironside, who starred in “Total Recall” and “Top Gun”. 

The cast includes Jeannie Bolet, Chris Voss, David M. Edelstein and Ben Kliewer.

What started as a passion project many moons ago by Eli Sasich, who co-wrote the series with Clayton Tolbert, began the journey as a short pitch-film for a feature screenplay, ATROPA went on to become a viral hit.

Produced by Chris Bryan and Lieren Stuivenvolt Allen, ATROPA was adapted into a seven-episode digital series that can be streamed online at Studio+.

The Series plays homage to every Sci-Fi film you can think off with hints of Ridley Scott’s “Alien”, “Blade Runner”, the finished result produces a unique cinematic take on the genre with breathtaking special effects. 

The set was designed by Production Designer Alec Contestabile and Wardrobe by Costume Designer Dagmarette Yen.

Atropa will be available in its first run worldwide from March 9 on Studio+, including in the U.S., where the service has just launched and is part of the Studio71 short-form scripted series catalog.
