Jane McDonald asks fans for help as she announces sad news ‘In serious trouble’

Many theatres across the UK have faced financial struggles due to shows being postponed or cancelled, in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Jane McDonald, 57, has now taken to her Twitter page to share news about her local theatre in Wakefield, as she asked fans to help raise money.

In view of her 156,000 followers, she shared a post from the theatre which included details to donate £5, in a bid to keep them going.

She wrote: “So sad to hear that one of the jewels of Wakefield, the Theatre Royal, is in serious trouble.

“As well as its fantastic shows, it does tremendous community work with young, elderly & lonely people.

“It would be such a shame if it had to close. @trwakefield.”

He said: “This is an important milestone for our performing artists who’ve been waiting patiently in the wings since March.

“Out theatres, operas, dance and music shows can start putting on outdoor performances to socially distance audience.”

He added that an emergency £1.57bn support package had been put in place to help protect the future of theatres, galleries and museums.

Despite this, he added this will not be enough to save every job.

Elsewhere, Jane recently announced her rearranged concert dates after postponing her shows due to the pandemic.

Earlier this year, she also revealed she will no longer be making episodes of her self-titled show Cruising With Jane McDonald.

She said in a statement: “It has been a privilege to call this a job.

“After so many years filming abroad, I am looking forward to some much-needed time in the UK and to focus on my music and tours and exciting new projects.”
