TUI vows to cover costs & flight expenses for some holidaymakers

Travel operator TUI has vowed to cover the costs of testing and treatment for holidaymakers if they contract coronavirus while on their holiday. As part of its updated travel promise, the holiday provider will cover the cost of medical tests for suspected cases, any treatment that may be needed, and any additional expense that comes as a result of an extended stay and later return home

“Every person who travels with us between now and the end of the year will be automatically covered for overseas medical assistance should they contract COVID-19 while on a TUI holiday,” says a statement on the TUI website.

“You’ll also be covered for any testing costs and we’ll fly you home for medical treatment if required “

Holidaymakers will also be financially supported if they are asked to self-isolate while they are travelling, subsequently extending their stay abroad.

If a traveller contracts COVID-19 prior to travel, TUI is also allowing travellers to amend their holiday for free prior to departure.

The news came following the Government announcement that Britons can now holiday to a number of countries without the need to quarantine upon their arrival back in the UK.

Included in the list were several holiday hotspots including Spain, France and Italy.

TUI resumed its operations on July 11.

Along with the promise to cover costs relating to coronavirus, TUI has also boosted health and safety measures on its flights and across its hotels.

“We’re taking every possible step to protect you against COVID-19 throughout your holiday, from deep-cleaning our aircraft to ensuring our hotels meet the highest standards of hygiene,” TUI states.

Passengers will be asked to wear face masks when travelling, and must now check-in using the TUI app or online.

They will also be asked to complete a health declaration 24 hours prior to flying.

At hotels, there will be some changes too, with certain amenities remaining closed if necessary.

A TUI spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “Due to local government restrictions, some of our kid’s clubs and creches in the resort may be closed or have restrictions on numbers so we’d advise customers to check before they travel.

“We’d like to reassure customers that as per our TUI Promise, we will not operate to any hotel or destination where we believe they won’t have a great holiday so if there are restrictions that would significantly impact the holiday enjoyment we simply won’t go there.

“If there is a significant change, for example, no TUI kids club, the main pool is closed or no TUI entertainment programme, then we will advise customers and they will have the option to amend their holiday to a suitable alternative or cancel with a full refund.”
