Tenet release date in August now ‘UNLIKELY’ – Here’s when would be ‘at the earliest’

Since cinemas closed in March, Hollywood studios have been shifting their movie release date back to the tail end of the year or even into the 2021. While some of the summer blockbusters have held their ground, shifting back a few weeks at a time. As it stands Christopher Nolan’s Tenet will release in the UK on August 12, while Disney’s Mulan is set to follow on August 19.

But now a box office analyst says that Tenet’s release in August is unlikely.

According to Deadline, Eric Handler of MKM Parters wrote: “The near-term outlook for exhibition-related stocks remains extremely clouded.

“It would be surprising to see theatres able to re-open nationwide before September, at the earliest.”

Of course, he was talking about the US, where coronavirus deaths have been on the rise.

And seeing as the country represents what is known as the domestic box office, ie a very large chuck of expected profits, it seems unlikely the UK would get a Tenet release ahead of the US.

So perhaps Warner Bros will push Nolan’s latest back to September or October.

Or maybe even all the way to next summer, also 2021 is becoming more and more crowded with delayed 2020 movies.

Of course, as and when Tenet moves, Disney’s Mulan is expected to do the same.

According to The Sun’s Bond source: “There are very secret discussions moving forward about what to do.”

Again, the main concern is the spike in coronavirus cases across the US.

The 007 insider pointed out how Craig’s Bond movies have been great financially and at the end of the day, it’s the movie business, so decisions for the best possible box office have to be made.

Allegedly, if No Time To Die made less than half a billion it will “be deemed a disaster” by the studios involved.

No Time To Die’s synopsis reads: “Five years after the capture of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, James Bond has left active service.

“He is approached by Felix Leiter, his friend and a CIA officer, who enlists his help in the search for Valdo Obruchev, a missing scientist.

“When it becomes apparent that Obruchev was abducted, Bond must confront a danger the likes of which the world has never seen before.”

No Time To Die is currently set for a UK release on November 12, 2020.
