Tottenham boss Mourinho has never recovered from Ronaldo, Ramos and Real Madrid rows

There were rows, volatile ones. His decision to drop Iker Casillas was seen as an act of betrayal, a stain on the club’s record. How could he treat one of their own, a Real Madrid legend, like that?

It wasn’t just Casillas who Mourinho clashed with. There were rows with Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo, two dressing room allies of the Spaniard.

And, in the end, a parting of the ways had to be done. Florentino Perez wanted to keep Mourinho but his volatile relationship with his players meant he was at the point of no return.

He’s not really been the same since.

Mourinho won the Premier League title again at Chelsea in 2015, nine years after he’d guided the club to the prize. But, even at the club he holds deepest in his heart, rows ruined his time there.

His tactics and methods upset the Chelsea squad with the likes of Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas all clashing with him.

There was also an ugly, very public spat with Eva Carneiro. It was seen by many as Mourinho trying to make his power known but, at the Blues, it’s Roman Abramovich who calls the shots. And, in the end, he chose to sack the most-successful manager in the club’s history as they lurched towards the relegation zone.
