OnePlus Nord release date scheduled for this month with an incredibly unique launch event

OnePlus has revealed more details about the launch of its next smartphone, known as the OnePlus Nord. The handset is widely-seen as a return to the firm’s roots – designed to bring top-tier features typically found on flagship smartphones to a device with a more affordable price tag. Over the last few years, OnePlus’ smartphones have steadily increased in prices.

Rather than simply bringing marquee features from the latest iPhone or Galaxy S smartphone to its handset, OnePlus is now innovating. It launched the first 5G-enabled smartphone in the UK, it beat more-established players like Samsung and Apple to high refresh-rate displays.

Inevitably, these add to the cost. The OnePlus 8 Pro starts from £799. That’s a significant increase from the £329 it charged for the OnePlus 3 back in June 2016.

But with the OnePlus Nord, which the Shenzhen-based company has already confirmed will cost “less than $500” (£390, converted), OnePlus fans will be able to get the latest handset from the firm without breaking the bank.

OnePlus has confirmed the OnePlus Nord will launch on July 21, 2020.

And the launch event promises to be pretty unique experience. OnePlus says it will be the first smartphone launch to take place in Augmented Reality (AR). For those who don’t know, AR is when digital elements are brought into the real-world by peering through a camera viewfinder – like when placing a piece of furniture in the room around you.

Instead of tuning into a YouTube livestream to see execs on-stage, OnePlus fans will have to download a dedicated OnePlus Nord AR app on iOS or Android.

OnePlus says the AR experience will let you try a virtual hands-on with the forthcoming device. So, you should be able to get a sense of how it compares with your current device – or at the very least, whether it’ll be a comfortable size for your hand.

Express.co.uk will be tuning in (in AR) to see the OnePlus Nord unveiled. We’ll have all of the specs, price, features and reaction on July 21, 2020. So stay tuned.
