Your PS5 console could look very different according to this Black Edition leak

Sony has confirmed its plans to launch its next-gen hardware in the coming months, taking on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Nintendo’s underpowered but hugely popular handheld Nintendo Switch. The PS5 release date has been set for 2020 and a new leak suggests it may come sporting some very different design schemes.

While the console itself would remain uniform in shape, the colour schemes available later this year could be eye-catching.

That’s according to one recent leak that suggests Sony could launch a number of different colour schemes for its next console.

New images have been shared online reportedly sourced from marketing materials that include a black PS5 console with red trimming.

The PS5 Black Edition is part of a range of hardware featured in the picture that shares the same aesthetics.

So there is a good chance this new design may have been shared to fit in with the rest of the products showcased.

But having been shared on various online forums, there seems to be a real hunger for this new PS5 console to be real.

One user writes: “I’d say that looks like a Miles Morales special edition, but the design is too understated for that.

“Video game companies aren’t capable of making a console based on a game without plastering a huge logo on it somewhere.”

This would fit in with a recent reveal made by Sony that includes the new box art for the Mile Morales PS5 game.

This includes a black and red design and would no doubt go very nicely with a Black Edition PS5.

Other gamers have pointed out that the back of the PS5 controller shown in the picture looks to be white, meaning this may remain a mocked-up image, created for cosmetic purposes.

The good news is that if this new PS5 console does prove not to be in production, there is still a good chance something like it may arrive in the future.

Limited Edition consoles are very popular and are created by Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all the time. So it’s almost guaranteed that something that sports Black and Red colours will eventually arrive for the PlayStation 5.

Speaking about revealing the new PS5 console design to gamers earlier this year, Eric Lempel, PlayStation’s Head of Global Marketing and Consumer Experience, recently revealed how Sony decided to make the console’s first unveiling.

He revealed: “I’ll give you a little story. Many months ago, I was in Tokyo. I got an invite to a meeting with Jim Ryan, our President [and CEO], and a bunch of other people. Pretty small group.

“And it was on a floor in the Sony headquarters building that I’d never been to before. The subject of the meeting was, “design.” So I thought I was going to a design meeting. And I got to this floor, and… there were a few doors you had to get through… you finally end up in this mini vault, a walk-in vault type of thing.

“There are these nice lights up above shining down. And there it was. Everything you saw today… PlayStation 5 was there, both units. The whole line of peripherals.

“And while I think everybody got a good view today, with all the shots you saw in the show. When you see this thing in person, there are a lot of nice, surprising features… it’s gorgeous, it’s just a marvel. I think people are going to love having in their home, it’s something they’ll want to show off.”

The PS5 release date has not been announced but the console is expected to arrive during October or November 2020.
