Piers Morgan: GMB host pays tribute to Jack Charlton following his death at 85

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan took to social media today to pay tribute to football star Jack Charlton, who has sadly passed away following a battle with lymphoma and dementia. The Leeds United defender, who later managed the Republic of Ireland football squad, was a member of the famous 1966 World Cup-winning England team.

Piers, 55, posted a picture of Jack holding the Jules Rimet trophy on his Instagram account, in view of his 1.2 million followers.

Alongside the picture he wrote: “RIP Jack Charlton, 85. World Cup winner with his brother Bobby & one of the all-time greats of British football.”

The presenter went on to describe the sports star as a “warm” and “funny” character.

He added: “A wonderful manager of the Republic of Ireland too & a fantastic character – funny, warm, honest & authentic. Very sad news.”

Piers was not the only celebrity paying tribute to the legendary footballer online today.

David Beckham and Dan Walker also posted tributes to Jack Charlton on social media.

Former England footballer David, 45, posted a picture of the 1966 winning team on Instagram and told his 63.6 million followers that Jack would be “forever in our memories”.

His post read: “So sad to hear about the passing of Jack Charlton… Our World Cup winner and brother of my dad’s hero Sir Bobby.

“Forever in our memories and the history of our country.”
