F1 chief speaks out as storms put Styrian Grand Prix qualifying in danger of cancellation

If the results from FP2 decide the starting grid for Sunday’s race, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen will be on pole with Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas alongside him on the front row.

It will then be an all-Racing Point second row, with Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll having gone third and fourth quickest respectively on Friday afternoon.

McLaren’s Carlos Sainz would round off the top five in that case, with reigning F1 champion Lewis Hamilton starting the second Grand Prix of 2020 in sixth.

Ferrari endured a tough day on Friday and would see Charles Leclerc start the inaugural Styrian Grand Prix ninth on the grid.

It would be worse, though, for Sebastian Vettel down in 16th, with just Nicholas Latifi, Kevin Magnussen, Romain Grosjean and Daniel Ricciardo behind the four-time champion.
