Piers Morgan’s GMB exit confession revealed: ‘Time for a break’

Piers Morgan has hosted Good Morning Britain since 2015, and has been remembered for fiery debates on Brexit, Scottish independence and vegan sausage rolls. But he had viewers convinced he was on his way out of the ITV breakfast show when he and Susanna Reid said they were sharing their final instalment together. Susanna shared the selfie of the pair of them on Twitter, and wrote: “Sadly, our last morning together for three weeks… @gmb.” Piers was less than impressed with the photo, writing dryly: “I look completely demented. It’s time for a break.”

On the programme in 2019, he revealed that he was heading to Beverly Hills.

Piers then confirmed, perhaps to the annoyance of many, that he would be back in three weeks.

Entertainment editor Richard Arnold joked: “If you’re leaving for three weeks, lighting can take a break.”

As the crew laughed, Piers replied “Wow, wow. Luckily I can take a joke.”

Piers has announced earlier this week that he will be taking a break from the show until September.

However, one GMB fan thought the host would be gone for good.

Piers said: “Welcome to Good Morning Britain, it’s just gone six o’clock, welcome to the programme.

“We have two more days left and then you can all be glad to see the back of us. Not forever, we’ll be back in September.”

Co-host Susanna warned: “Whenever you say we’re off and we’re leaving, people think ‘Woohoo is that forever?’”

“I tried to see if I could do caricatures using acrylics of various well-known celebrities from old photos I found on the internet to while away the hours of solitude and being on one’s own.

“I’ve never been much of an artist and I’m getting on in my years so my eyesight is not what it used to be.

‘After watching GMB which I regularly do, I thought I heard you state you were leaving at the end of the year.”

Piers clarified: “I’m not actually CJ, end of next year. Possibly.”

Susanna added: “Contract negotiations underway.”
