Piers Morgan sparks backlash after blasting BBC for scrapping free over-75s TV licences

They added: “We reached the fairest decision we can in funding free TV licences for the poorest older pensioners, while protecting BBC services.

“If the BBC funded all TV licences for the over 75s it would mean the closure of BBC Two, BBC Four, the BBC News Channel, the BBC Scotland channel, Radio 5 Live, and several local radio stations.”

Piers’ tweet about the BBC comes after he announced he and his co-host Susanna Reid will be taking a break from ITV’s Good Morning Britain until September.

Susanna shared the selfie of the pair of them on Twitter, and wrote: “Sadly, our last morning together for three weeks… @gmb.”

Piers addressed the pair’s break from the show with a humorous response, writing back: “I look completely demented. It’s time for a break.”
