And McGinley feels the confirmation of moving the event back to odds years suits organisers from a commercial point of view because of the anniversary year and also because it avoids Olympic years from now on.
“I think that was more about business and it also negotiations with the Presidents Cup in America,” he added.
“Also, I think PGA of America and European Tour, the owners of the Ryder Cup, were kind of keen to get 2027 as a date.
“Being the 100th anniversary would have been rather significant, rather than it being in 2026 and be the 99th year.
“Although it’s going to clash with the Olympics next year, after that it won’t clash with the Olympics any more and I think that’s quite significant from a commercial point of view.”
