Liverpool remain on course to beat Manchester City’s record points haul of 100 after beating Brighton 3-1 on the South Coast. The Reds raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first seven minutes with goals from Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson, before Brighton pulled one back through Leandro Trossard. Salah then headed in a third in the second half to wrap up the game. Here’s how the Reds fared at the Amex.
Alisson – 7
Made a smart save to deny Neal Maupay from close range. Had to be alert on more than one occasion as Brighton pumped several crosses into the box.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7
Crossing was sloppy but still a constant outlet. Left an unintentional but nasty challenge on Alexis Mac Allister but got away with it.
Virgil van Dijk – 7
Solid as ever on his birthday but didn’t really have much to do with the most of the Seagulls’ play out wide.
Joe Gomez – 6
Should have been tighter to Trossard for Brighton’s opener. Still not at his best and it’s an issue that needs resolving for Jurgen Klopp.
JUST IN: Man Utd ‘agreed’ £13m Roberto Firmino deal with medical planned before Liverpool transfer
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6
Looks lost out wide in a reminder for Klopp that he is much more effective centrally.
Mohamed Salah – 9
Finished brilliantly for the opener and also teed up the second. Could have squared to Sadio Mane in the second half on the break but made amends by glancing home the third.
Roberto Firmino – 7
Another quiet game from the Brazilian but he did show great awareness to leave the ball for Salah’s opener.
SUBS
Andy Robertson – 8
Relentless down the left and recorded another assist from a corner, setting up Salah.
Sadio Mane – 7
Selfless display from the sub, who would have been frustrated to start on the bench. A few bright moments.
Fabinho – 8
Booked but sprayed a lovely pass to Salah over the top. Real presence for the last half-hour, Liverpool miss that when he’s not on the field.
James Milner – N/A
Takumi Minamino – N/A
