Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho confident of completing Chelsea transfer raid in £25m deal

The French defender has fought his way back into Frank Lampard’s team this week – being recalled for their last two games against Watford and Crystal Palace – but the Chelsea manager is still looking to bring in a new centre-back this summer.

The man Lampard has targeted is West Ham’s former Chelsea trainee Declan Rice – and if the England man does arrive then it could be Zouma, 25, who is the man sacrificed.

Everton are also interested in Zouma, who spent a successful year on loan at Goodison Park in 2018-19 – but Spurs manager Jose Mourinho is a major fan of the powerful defender.

Mourinho too wants to strengthen his back line – and Zouma, who he gave a debut to at Chelsea, is top of his list of potential recruits.

Everton’s former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has though also earmarked Zouma as one of the men he wants.

The stumbling block though to both potential deals is the price which Chelsea are set to put on Zouma’s head – which is expected to be around £25million.

Mourinho was asked about Tottenham’s summer transfer plans this week, with the Portuguese claiming it could be an unpredictable window.

He said: “I don’t know the market. First of all I’m not in control of the market, secondly it will be something new.

“The dynamics of the market are something that for many of us are still a question mark.
