Kate Garraway opens up on daughter's heartbreaking plea to dad: 'If you don't get well'

Kate Garraway recently made an emotional admission as she revealed how the couple’s children have been coping with the absence of their dad, Derek Draper. The Good Morning Britain host and her spouse share two children together, Darcey, 14, and William, 10.

The 53-year-old’s other half was hospitalised with breathing difficulties, before testing positive for coronavirus.

While he is now Covid-free, Derek remains seriously ill in hospital since his admission in March.

The broadcaster and their two children haven’t seen him in person since he was taken away in an ambulance.

He was later placed in an induced coma and Kate has since revealed that doctors have said that Derek had a “minimum state of consciousness” following weeks in intensive care.

The GMB host has now revealed her eldest daughter has pleaded for her dad to “get well soon”.

Speaking in a new interview, Kate explained how Darcey has plans to become a barriseter, claimed her mum is “useless” at getting household funiture together, therefore Derek needs to return home as soon as possible.

Kate told HELLO! magazine: “Darcey, who wants to be a barrister, said: ‘Dad, you’d better get better soon because I’m getting cleverer every day. You’ll never win an argument if you don’t get well soon.’

“The two of them used to have massive debates about teenagers’ rights all the time.”

The ITV presenter previously spoke out about the family’s “torture” not having Derek at home.

She recalled one moment on spotting the family’s calendar, which Derek normally updates with an “R” to represent recycling day.

“His writing is all over it — then suddenly we turned the page for June and it just stopped because he hadn’t planned that far ahead,” Kate previously told The Sun.

“There are times when I can’t bear to look around this house. It’s full of things he’s chosen and we’ve chosen together, and when Darcey and Billy are with each other… there are moments as parents where you take pleasure because you see them do something, or change in some way, and that bonds you.”

“That’s the torture,” Kate continued. “He’s trapped at the moment, in a line between living and the uncertainty of recovery, and we’re trapped with that uncertainty as well.”

She said Billy had also built a den next to Derek’s side of the bed and sleeps there each night.

Kate has since revealed she may be returning to GMB as doctors urged her to continue with some form of routine.

She has been absent from the show for several months following her husband’s hospital admission.
