Tyson Fury has a ‘tremendous following’ in the United States and is ‘better known’ than rival Anthony Joshua, according to Top Rank executive Brad Jacobs.

The rival world heavyweight champions have agreed a deal in principle which would see them fight twice next year, although the venue is yet to be finalised.

British boxing fans have been clamouring for the fight to take place in the UK but Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed parties in Saudi Arabia have China have offered to host the event.

Meanwhile, Fury’s representatives at Top Rank suggest the unification match should be held in America, namely the WBC champion’s ‘second home’ in Las Vegas.

‘It would be a huge fight in Britain for obvious reasons. But a heavyweight championship fight in the US is a big thing,’ Jacobs told Sky Sports.

‘Certainly Fury’s second home is Las Vegas. All of his recent fights have been there. He has a tremendous following in the US with (American TV) pushing him and making him a star.

‘Fury is better known in the US than Joshua. But there is time for Joshua to make a name for himself before this event takes place.

‘It doesn’t hurt for either guy to continue to build their profile before this fight. They are each huge names across the world. The bigger and better that becomes, the better it is for everybody.’

Joshua’s only trip to America ended in defeat in June 2019 when he was knocked down four times and stopped inside seven rounds at Madison Square Garden by Andy Ruiz Jr.

The Briton regained his titles six months later, this time recording a unanimous decision victory over Ruiz Jr in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In contrast, Fury is undefeated in five fights on American soil. The Gypsy King defeated Steve Cunningham in New York in 2013 before earning a split decision draw with Deontay Wilder in Los Angeles in December 2018.

Fury also beat Tom Schwarz and Otto Wallin in 2019 and claimed the WBC belt by stopping WIlder inside seven rounds in Las Vegas in February 2020.

Before any unification match can take place, Fury must defend his title against Wilder and Joshua must overcome IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev. Dates and venues for these contests have not yet been confirmed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
