Forget GTA 6, this new PS5 and Xbox Series X game could be the next big thing

A new studio has been set up with the goal of releasing a new open-world game for PS5 and Xbox Series X. The new venture is called LightSpeed LA and is being helmed by Rockstar Games veteran, Steve Martin. The studio is aiming to release AAA games and has been set up by Tencent Games, a giant in the world of development and publishing.

So with the backing of Tencent and the know-how of Martin, LightSpeed LA could be on track to make something special.

As confirmed by GamesIndustryBiz this week, Martin held leadership roles on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, making for an impressive CV.

And this may even hint at the kind of games we can expect from Lightspeed in the future, even if much remains unannounced.

A statement from Martin reads: “We’re ushering a new era of game culture by combining world-class development with a stress-free work environment.

“From day one, our teams will be focused on building the highest caliber games while promoting integrity, proactivity, collaboration, and creativity.”

It’s been reported that the first game from the studio will launch on the PS5 and Xbox Series X and will be open-world focused.

LightSpeed LA is also said to have recruited personnel to work on the game from famous studios like Rockstar Games, Respawn Entertainment, 2K Games, and Insomniac.

And with such a long wait being predicted for the release of GTA 6, there’s a chance this new game will be available to play before.

The current industry predictions suggest that Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be hitting shelves until at least 2022.

And with the likelihood that there will be delays, many suggest that 2023 will be the final date of release.

It will make for one of the longest waits for a new Grand Theft Auto game and seems to make clear that it will be a wholly next-gen endeavour.

While Rockstar Games has not said much about its plans for GTA 6, it has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X.

This title is being expanded and enhanced on next-gen machines, with GTA Online also coming to the PS5 as a standalone title.

Here’s the latest information from Rockstar Games on the situation involving GTA 5 coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X:

“As recently revealed at Sony’s PlayStation 5 digital event, the adventures of Michael, Franklin and Trevor are coming to a new generation of consoles, including PlayStation 5, in the second half of 2021.

“The new generation versions of GTAV will feature a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements to take full advantage of the latest hardware, making the game more beautiful and more responsive than ever.

“And for the massive and vibrant community of Grand Theft Auto Online players worldwide, the journey through the ever-evolving, shared world of GTA Online will continue on to the new generation with more new updates including additional GTA Online content exclusive to the new consoles and PC.”
