Windows 10 bug could be slowing down your PC and you won't like the fix

Windows 10 fans have once again been hit by an annoying bug, and the solution for the problem could give users an even bigger headache. The market leading OS from Microsoft has been hit by a long line of glitches in recent months. From problems connecting printers, to knock-on issues with Google Chrome, to e-mails suddenly going missing – it’s enough to make a Windows 10 user pull their hair out.

And this miserable run of form continues for Windows 10 fans with another problem hitting the world’s most popular desktop OS.

As reported on in a post by Windows Latest, a recently released patch for Windows 10 could actually end up making your PC slower.

Last month Microsoft released a new Windows 10 update that ensures patches for the Edge web browser are downloaded automatically without any user intervention.

And one of these Edge patches – KB4559309 – has been causing issues for Windows 10 users, who have reported their PCs have since become slower to boot up.

Not only that, but once Windows 10 does finish the start-up process affected users have noticed their computers in general are more sluggish.

Issues people have reported on the Microsoft forums include apps being slower to load and poor performance when switching between programmes.

One user reported: “Last night I updated my Windows 10 Pro using KB4559309.

“Since then my computer performance has absolutely tanked. my startup time is probably triple, loading any window has a few second delay.

“I attempted to uninstall the update however Windows tells me that it is required and cannot be removed.

“This update has essentially rendered my brand new computer useless.”

While another added: “This update was installed two nights ago. Since then my computer is extremely slow and my external hard drive will not work.

“I click on something and several seconds to a minute goes by before anything happens.

“I tried to close apps using the Task Manager and got a black screen that I couldn’t get out of unless I did a hard reset.

“I tried to uninstall KB4559309 but Windows does not allow the uninstall option.”

And one Windows 10 user posted: “I have the same experience. After this update that included an automatic update to Microsoft Edge, my laptop takes a long time to start and I cannot use Google Chrome without my computer freezing.

“I use Chrome as I feel it is a superior browser, and now I am being forced to use Microsoft Edge just so I can continue to work and allow my son to keep studying during lockdown.

“At a time when people across the world are struggling to make ends meet and keep learning, I think Microsoft need to release an urgent update to resolve these widespread issues.”

It’s not clear how widespread this issue is, with different OS configurations meaning not everyone using a Windows 10 machine is likely to be affected.

Unfortunately though, those that have been hit by the problem don’t have too many options.

If you try to uninstall the KB4559309 patch you will be greeted by a message which says the “update is required and cannot be uninstalled”.

The only thing you can do to resolve the issue is enact a System Restore to revert back to a previous version of Windows 10.

You shouldn’t lost any data or files by doing this but it’s always best to do a back-up just in case.

The caveat to all of this is by rolling back to an earlier version of Windows 10 you’ll be missing out on any fixes the update in question did include.
