Her daughter may be only 8 months old but Shay Mitchell thinks they’re never too young to learn about human equality! That being said, the actress revealed that she has been teaching Atlas about activism already!
During a new interview for HollywoodLife, Shay explained that a ‘healthy routine’ is what is truly important in the development of a child so she’s started doing it even though she may still be too young to understand much.
‘It is also very important to explain to her the importance of equality and treating everybody with respect. And letting Atlas know that, no matter what you may look like, you should be able to love and be loved with no judgment,’ Shay told the news outlet.
She went on to also dish that reading to her and boyfriend Matte Babel’s daughter is also a huge part of the whole experience.
‘It could start with just a book, like the ones that we read to her at night. We’ll read Dr. Seuss of course, but incorporating other books too. One of the ones that I have finished previously is A is for Activist [written by Innosanto Nagara.] I never think they’re too young to at least be learning and listening to us read these books to them. So, that’s one way we can start to do that.’
Of course, she mentioned that when the kids are already a bit older, parents could do research and also watch things together online that would ultimately help with their education.
The 33 year old mom stressed that these kinds of conversations are really important no matter what family one comes from as far as race, ethnic and financial background are concerned.
