Spain holidays: When can you fly to Spain?

The spread of coronavirus had led to many countries around the world closing their borders in order to stem the peak of cases. Now, with the virus under control in many European countries, borders have begun to open back up again.

With months in lockdown, many Britons may be wondering when they can feasibly fly to holiday destinations.

As lockdown restrictions ease, so do the travel restrictions – however, anyone planning to travel abroad is cautioned of the measures in place upon arrival back to the UK.

Upon arriving at a British airport, travellers must fill out information on where they will be staying, give contact information and then remain in isolation for 14 days.

Some countries are also asking for evidence travellers are virus-free upon arrival.

The FCO added: “Anyone who presents symptoms or fails one of the above requirements will be seen by a health professional.”

Airlines including Ryanair, EasyJet, Jet2 and TUI will be offering flights to Spain this summer, and there are several destinations you can choose from.

These include holiday favourites like Majorca, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Alicante and Barcelona.

Despite easing lockdown restrictions, Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has warned social distancing measures and hygiene controls must still be strictly observed.

He warned of the risk of a second coronavirus wave: “which must be avoided at all costs.”

In Spain, police have already faced closing several Andalusian beaches after tourists flocked there in good weather, flouting social distancing rules.

Home Secretary Priti Patel has said UK borders could be reopened now that coronavirus transmission rates were continuing to fall.

Ms Patel told Sophy Ridge on Sky News: “With regard to the public health measures at the border, when those measures were brought in it was to prevent a second wave of the virus being imported in.

“As we see rates of the virus drop with other countries in the world, and also as we see domestic transmission fall, it is right we look at how we facilitate travel and the air corridors, or the travel corridors, that I and my colleagues have spoken about.

“In terms of the countries where this will be possible, there will be an announcement in the next few days ahead.”
