2020 Daytime Emmy Winners Announced In Virtual Ceremony Hosted By The Cast Of The Talk

The COVID-19 pandemic has put Hollywood on pause for the past few months, but the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences decided to move forward with the 2020 Daytime Emmys in a virtual ceremony.

The 47th annual Daytime Emmy Awards honored the best in daytime drama, talk shows, legal shows, morning shows, and game shows over the past year. And, the virtual awards ceremony was hosted by The Talk co-hosts Marie Osmond, Sharon Osbourne, Eve, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Sheryl Underwood, who announced the winners of each category via livestream on CBS.

The Young and the Restless’ Jason Thompson and The Bold and the Beautiful’s Heather Tom were the winners in the Lead Actor and Lead Actress in a Drama Series categories. The winners of the Supporting Actor and Actress in a Drama Series category were Bryton James from The Young and the Restless and Tamara Braun from General Hospital.

Olivia Rose Keegan from Days of Our lives won Outstanding Young Performer in a Drama Series. And, the award for Outstanding Drama Series went to The Young and the Restless.

The People’s Court won the award for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program, and The Today Show won for Outstanding Morning Show. The award for Outstanding Entertainment News program went to Entertainment Tonight.

In the Game Show categories, Jeopardy! won the Outstanding Game Show category, and host Alex Trebek won the award for Outstanding Game Show Host.

The View beat out Rachel Ray, Red Table Tak, Today Show with Hoda & Jenna, and The 3rd Hour of Today for Outstanding Informative Talk Show. And, The Ellen DeGeneres Show beat out GMA3: Strahan, Sara, & Keke, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Live with Kelly and Ryan, and The Talk for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show.

Kelly Clarkson also won her first Emmy award when she took home the prize for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host, beating out the hosts of GMA3: Strahan, Sara, & Keke, The Talk, Maury Povich from Maury, and Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest from Live with Kelly and Ryan.

Besides the 19 categories announced on the CBS broadcast, another 24 were later revealed on social media. Digital drama categories will be streamed in another virtual ceremony on July 19. And, the animation, family viewing, lifestyle and children’s programming categories will be streamed on July 26.
