Coldplay's Glastonbury fury exposed: 'He RUINS everything'

Martin and his band Coldplay are one of the UK’s biggest selling artists, regularly shifting millions of copies of their albums during their 20-year-career in music. The band initially rose to prominence with their first 2000 album ‘Parachutes’, before releasing ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’, which would earn the four piece their first Grammy Awards. It was initially speculated that Coldplay would return to the stage at this year’s Glastonbury festival, which in 2020 was set to mark its 50th anniversary.

However, the organisers were forced to pull the plug on the event due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Yet, before the event was cancelled, Martin admitted the band would not be returning to the festival or playing any gigs in 2020.

According to a 2019 SomersetLive article, Martin he made the admission alongside revealing a heart-breaking confession about one commenter’s assessment of his performance at last year’s festival.

When asked if they would perform this year, Martin said: “No.

“I did pop up on stage last year and I loved doing so.

“Then I saw a tweet afterwards which said ‘you can always rely on him to come on in a tracksuit and ruin everything’.

“So I was like you know what, a), I should work on my trousers, and b), I shouldn’t be online and c), maybe just go and watch Glastonbury for a year or so.”

On whether this affected him, he replied: “Sometimes these things hurt me because I’m human.”

This year the BBC has created its own Glastonbury channel to coincide with the cancelled event.

Viewers can enjoy a host of highlights from the festival’s history including iconic performances from Adele, David Bowie and Oasis.

On iPlayer, further performances from artists such as LCD Soundsystem and Blur can also be watched.
