New Pokémon Snap Announced For Switch

More than two decades ago, Nintendo 64 players were treated to a new kind of Pokémon experience. 1999’s Pokémon Snap gave players an on-rails shooter of sorts that tasked them with photographing Game Freak’s iconic creatures in their natural habitats. While we’ve seen Virtual Console ports of that original game, as well as photography minigames in subsequent titles, Snap enthusiasts have been waiting 21 years for a new game in the series. Today, The Pokémon Company finally told those players that they don’t have to wait much longer, as New Pokémon Snap is in development for Nintendo Switch.

New Pokémon Snap game is based on its namesake and will take trainers to islands full of beaches, jungles, and other locales to research various Pokémon, but it is an all-new game developed by Bandai Namco Studios. Using their trusty camera, trainers will once again document these creatures in their natural habitats to fill out their Photodex. In addition, players will discover new Pokémon expressions and behaviors.

We don’t know when New Pokémon Snap will hit Nintendo Switch, but fans of the original are sure to be excited by this announcement.
