Man Utd pair leading Ole Gunnar Solskjaer into Jadon Sancho transfer decision

Manchester United are so hellbent on signing Jadon Sancho because they believe Daniel James and Mason Greenwood are better-suited in different positions, reports say. The Borussia Dortmund star has been involved in 34 goals from 30 Bundesliga games this season. And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to beat the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona to the 20-year-old’s signature when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign.

It’s an open secret that United want to sign Sancho, with the club’s interest dating back to the forward’s time in the Manchester City academy.

In the three years since the youngster left the Etihad he’s flourished at Dortmund, establishing himself as one of the best performers in the Bundesliga.

United are determined to land him this summer with Solskjaer installed with the belief that Sancho can propel the club back to the top – and back to the glory days.

And the Manchester Evening News say the right wing is the club’s priority because they feel both James and Greenwood would be better off in different positions.

The pair have both been trialled on the flank this season after United missed out on Sancho last summer due to their failure to secure Champions League qualification.

But, with James, United think he’d be more of a threat on the left.

But whether they’re able to win the race for him, especially given interest from Europe’s elite, is something only time will tell.

Meanwhile, there’s been speculation that Sancho could stay at Dortmund for one more year as a result of the coronavirus crisis.

Yet former Liverpool star Didi Hamann thinks the 20-year-old will be on the move this summer – and United could very well be his next destination.

“There will continue to be a market for the top players, like Jadon Sancho – he’s just too good to wait another year,” he told Bild.

“I see him going to the Premier League. The most likely option there is Manchester United.”

He then added: “It would be nice to see some reason there.

“Before the Coronavirus crisis, last season, the 20 clubs in the league made a loss of around €670 million. Perhaps smaller transfer fees and less salary will now be paid to players across the board.

“Investors can dig into their pockets to make up for a deficit. Of course there is an absurdly high TV income in England, but the investors give the clubs completely new opportunities.

“That is why the idea of solidarity in the clubs is also different.

“In the Bundesliga, players have waived their salary so that no one had to be fired in the offices.

“In England, the 20 captains got together and donated some of their salary to the NHS.”
