Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp delivers injury update after double blow

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says James Milner is likely to miss Wednesday’s clash with Crystal Palace after suffering a hamstring injury against Everton.

Minutes before half-time at Goodison Park, Milner limped off the pitch and was spotted in the stands applying an ice pack to his hamstring.

Then in the second half, Liverpool lost Joel Matip to an injury and he was replaced by Dejan Lovren.

Liverpool would go on to draw 0-0 and they are just five points away from winning the Premier League title.

But ahead of their next match against Palace, Klopp revealed they could be without two key men.

He said: “Millie felt his hamstring a bit. Maybe not Wednesday but after that I’d hope.

“Joel was unlucky, his big toe. Hopefully nothing serious.”

Klopp also conceded that the draw was a fair result after a scrappy performance by his players.

He told Sky Sports: “It was a real fight. Both teams showed that they understand it’s a derby – even without a crowd. It was intense, physical, all-in.

“The players were really in the game, so that’s good.

“I really liked our defending; the high press, midfield press, counter-press good. We won a lot of balls.

“We didn’t have a lot of chances; most of the time we were dominant but they had the biggest chance – that’s how it is.

“It came out of the blue. We were lucky in that moment but apart from that, we were in control.”

Meanwhile, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti said he was happy with how his team performed.

He said: “The performance was good; we did well defensively.

“We didn’t concede opportunities, we were focused. We had a big chance to win but against a strong team we showed good character and personality. It’s what we planned and wanted from the game.

“We didn’t concede a lot of space to Van Dijk to play from the back. We were focused on Fabinho and defensively, the back four were really good – strong in the tackle. I’m really pleased.”
