D.L. Hughley Collapses On Stage Mid-Joke During A Set At Nashville Comedy Club, Tests Positive For COVID-19

Comedian D.L. Hughley gave fans a scare on Friday night when he collapsed on stage in the middle of a joke at a Nashville comedy club. The 57-year-old was performing at Zanies Nashville Comedy Club when he suddenly started to slur his words.

Fans were confused about what was happening when Hughley suddenly paused and then started to lean forward on his stool. Two staffers immediately jumped in to help Hughley, but his body went limp and the comedian completely collapsed on the stage.

An announcer attempted to keep the crowd under control by telling them to “stay calm” and assuring them that “we’ve got it all under control.” Staff members quickly carried Hughley off stage so he could get medical care. According to TMZ, a club staff member contacted first responders and both an ambulance and firetruck were dispatched to the scene.

An audience member captured the moment on video – which occurred around 11:00 p.m. local time – and posted it on Twitter. Not long after, YouTube journalist DJ Vlad tweeted that he had just spoken to the “King of Comedy” and he was “OK.”

“He was suffering from exhaustion after all the week’s work and travel, and was kept overnight at the hospital for tests under doctor’s orders. He is awake and feeling better, and wishes to thank everyone for the very kind prayer and thoughts,” Hughley’s representative told Us Weekly.

Hughley also gave his fans an update on social media and revealed that he was diagnosed with COVID-19 after undergoing tests at the hospital. Hughley was performing on the second night of a four-day residency at Zanies, which re-opened on May 15 with a reduced number of tickets and socially distant seating after the coronavirus lockdown.

The demand was so high for tickets, Hughley added a second Sunday show to the residency. D.L. Hughley also has a three-day set scheduled starting on June 26 at Stand Up Live in Huntsville, Alabama.

D.L. Hughley starred on the ABC/UPN sitcom The Hughleys between 1998 and 2002. He was also a member of the Original Kings of Comedy with the late Bernie Mac, Cedric the Entertainer, and Steve Harvey.
