Disaster for Biden as Georgians vote for candidates who are no longer running

A total of 70,000 Georgians voted for Bernie Sanders, whilst almost another 12,000 gave their vote to Elizabeth Warren.

More than 100,000 votes went to candidates who dropped out of the race months ago.

President Trump also outperformed his main rival, receiving 698, 825 votes compared to Biden’s 552,253, according to NBC News data.

Trump’s number of votes dwarfed that of Barack Obama’s in 2012.

In that year, Mr Obama received 500,000 fewer votes in the Georgia Primary than Trump, despite running unopposed in the state.

Voter turnout has been suggested as a factor behind Trump’s success.

This comes after a campaign official revealed that President Trump plans to restart holding campaign rallies in the next two weeks.

Trump has postponed large arena gatherings due to the coronavirus pandemic, but reports suggest the President believes operations can resume shortly.

The last campaign rally took place on March 2, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Sources close to the President revealed he has been eager to interact with crowds again after a three-month hiatus.

Trump will be keen to speak to as many American as possible as he prepares for the November 3rd U.S presidential election.

The official date for Trump’s first rally after the hiatus is yet to be confirmed.

In the Iowa caucuses, Trump bettered the former president by more than 30,000 votes.

In New Hampshire, President Trump also scored more than double the amount of votes Obama received in 2012.

There is some good news for Mr Biden, alongside President Trump, he won his respective primary.

That result gained Mr Biden even more delegates after he won the 1,991 needed to grant his party’s nomination.

Mr Biden successfully achieved his party’s nomination for the first time in the three years he has run for president.

Speaking after the result, Biden revealed he was creating a movement “that will transform our nation.”

In a statement, Biden said: “it was an honour to compete alongside one of the most talented groups of candidates the Democratic Party has ever fielded, and I am proud to say that we are going into this general election a united party.

I am going to spend every day between now and November 3rd fighting to earn their votes of Americans all across this great country so that together we can win the battle for the soul of this nation and make sure that as we rebuild our economy everyone comes along.” Biden added.

The next primaries will take place in Kentucky and New York on June 23.
