Star Citizen is an Open Development Alpha Project by Cloud Imperium. It is 2 Games really though, the Persistent Universe that aims to build a First Person MMO Space Sim that encompasses gameplay in ship & on ground, economy and pretty much anything else you can think of. It’s built in the StarEngine (a modified Lumberyard Engine). You’ll see massive Space Ships that you can fly with friends, land on planets, explore or whatever your way to whatever goal you choose. It’s available to try in it’s current Alpha State now, you can give feedback & influence the direction of the game BUT it is VERY ALPHA.
Squadron 42 is the Single Player Campaign of Star Citizen & the Spiritual Successor of Wing Commander. The Idea is the game is immersive, cinematic, beautiful & seamless… NO LOADING SCREENS once in game.
Both Games are currently in the Alpha of their development with the hope that SQ42 Episode 1 will have a Feature Complete Beta by Q3 2020.
I am suspecting to see something more like a Star Citizen PU Beta by the end of 2022 with permanent progression, though it could be a while after that before the game is considered “feature” complete.

  1. overall if u look on the sq42 roadmap, most of the features are complete or almost complete so I think we can expect beta in q4 of 2020 and I hope to see it then 😉

  2. I just joined SC on January 1, 2020 in fact, but put over 20 hours in so far. My question is I see so many aspects of other games (primarily Eve Online, Elite Dangerous) but not as fully fleshed out as those games. I like what I see, but what IS the goal of SC that's any different than those games.

  3. With the implementation of SSOCS and quite likely a number of other behind the scenes details, I am expecting that 2020 will see a ramping up of content. I am hoping that with the staggered development we will start to see less bugs, however I am also balancing that against implementation of new mechanics, which will cause other unforseen bugs. 2020 will be a critical year for CIG and the development of Star Citizen and I am hoping that we will see some major milestones in the new year.

  4. hover, which was just enough thrust directed down to cancel the pull of gravity. with the rest of the thrusters inactive unless directed. was really good. buggy and was shit show at the hangars, but good. as long as you "hovered" your finger over "X", things were usually fine. CIG could add any number of things to help players i.e. bigger doors, extending auto-land area trigger, autopilot boundaries lining the hangar walls, carrier landing crew style lights etc….
