Report: Former Oregon football recruit charged with attempted murder

One-time Oregon football recruit Luke Hill was charged with felony first-degree attempted murder, felony assault and other misdemeanor charges in Maryland, ESPN reported.

Hill, 18, allegedly fired a gun multiple times at Rhode Island basketball recruit Ishmael Leggett. Leggett is a 6-foot-2 guard who was Hill’s classmate at St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C.

Oregon informed Hill, listed as the No. 12 cornerback in the ESPN recruiting rankings, he would not join the football team earlier this spring, and he never formally applied for admission, ESPN reported. Hill also had scholarship offers from Nebraska, Alabama, Clemson, Florida and Virginia Tech.

According to ESPN, Hill was arrested on Monday night. The Temple Hills, Md., native was being held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 19.
